5/24/2010 Hi
Cliff, Just wanted to let you know I thought you led a great class. Thanks for everything!

5/24/2010 9:40:14 PM Thank
you Cliff, I
really enjoyed your class and you made it really fun. I loved all
the notes and your humor. Teachers like you is what makes learning more
interesting. I guess, it all starts out with a passion. You have a great
summer and life too. Alright! Thanks again Cliff.

AM I
am totally with you on this. I stayed away from chemistry because I
thought it was just too much for me, but I really did enjoy this class.
Yes the mathmatics of chemistry is still way over my head, but the rest of
it I really enjoyed. I realize it was a beginners class, but everything
has to start somewhere. I think I might take another chemistry class.
Never thoght I would say that.

Hi
Cliff! I
really enjoyed your class!!! I found it very interesting, even
though people thought I was crazy for taking a Chem class as an elective! I
am a bit dissapointed with my grade... Had I not turned discussion 5
in late I would have and A in the class after the final.... But hey
I guess some people would be happy with a B. What
other classes do you teach online? Thanks
for a great semester, |

thin that is a really great idea. If you had asked me at the
begining, I would have told you chemistry had nothing to do with my
everyday life. That I was a social worker and working with people all day
long I never had anything to do with chemistry. How shocked I would be now
to look back on that answer and realize how much chemistry does affect me
everyday. This was a great class I really appreciated the knowledge
yougave me. |

PM I
learned a lot of neat things in this class, most of what I didn't
understand in high school Chemistry made A LOT more sense now. One of the
three things I enjoyed learning the most about would be about radiation,
since I work in a dental office it made it interesting since it's
something we use everyday. The second thing would have to be learning how
to find how many valence electrons there are. unlike my high school
chemistry class, this book made it pretty clear and google was always
helpful :). The third thing I enjoyed was learning about nucluer fisson
and the whole chapter that was in. I really like history and learning how
the bombs were made was interesting. The thing I was least fond of
learning about had to be chapter 17, all of it. For some reason learning
about proteins just doesn't do it for me. Over all I really enjoyed the
class and learned a lot that I will take with me!

PM I
think the most interesting fact that I learned this semester was that heat
does not rise. What is really happening is that gasses become less
dense when heated and then they rise. This
may not be interesting to most, but I am very interested in the
concepts of stoichiometry. I find it particularly fun to calculate
how much (in grams) of a substance will react with a certain amount of a
given substance given a certain equation. The math behind it all is
very simple but the procedures can seem complex. I
guess I already knew this from high school, but I am very intrigued
by the first law of thermodynamics: "Energy cannot be created or
destroyed, only change forms" The thought of the universe
as essentially a closed system is very interesting to me. It reminds
me of philosophers (fatalists?) who see everything on earth as inevitably
caused by prior actions. Under this idealogy, if a scientist
can only find all relevant variables and the formulas in which they fit,
he can essentially predict anything... Wow, i think in enjoyed this class more than I remember... |

PM I really enjoyed learning about atoms, and the periodic table again. It was review for me, but I enjoyed learning it again. I also liked learning to balance out chemical equation, this too was review for me again, but I found it fun. I have never done my carbon footprint before. I did know some of the effects carbon emissions had on our atmosphere, but I did not know all that I have learned this semester. I also liked learning about polymers. This subject was new to me, and I like learning about plastics. There wasent really a subject I disliked, or bored me. The one that took me a while to get, was learning about nuclear decay. The assignments we fun, and I thought very creative. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this class! |

I must say that although I love math and science I was dreading taking chemistry. I saved it until my last semester so I could focus my attention. I can honestly say that this has been my favorite class, with 90+ units completed, that is saying a lot:) |

some online classes are not so great. I have taken classes where
I thought I was teaching myself and there was no feedback from the
instructors. This class was not that way thank goodness. I was an
enjoyable class. |
|
I was scared to take this class because I thought that it would be hard. But luckily, thanks to the way the class was presented - it turned out to be a blast. Now, I'm not so scared of chemistry. |
|
I wasn't expecting to learn the types of things I learned, I was expecting boring sterotypical stuff....but It wans't like that at all and I really enjoyed taking this class. |
|
I have to say that I came into this class expecting it to be horribly boring, probably because science has never really been my thing and I didn't do too well with chemistry when I was younger. However, from the very first discussion I knew that this class was going to be awesome. |
| I always thought chemistry was boring. However, this class made chemistry more fun than I ever thought chemistry could be. |
|
I really expected to hate this chemistry class, but actually, I really enjoyed it. I think a lot of it had to do with Professor Gottlieb being such an awesome teacher. |
|
Overall This is the best chemistry class I've taken. I admit to not doing all the leg work, but I can say that I understood most of it. And I think that the discussions where very helpful and it is interesting to see what other people think. It also helped because it helps to know that you are not the only one having issues or following a certain thought process. |
|
Out of all the online classes I was registered for at that time, Chemistry, this class, was the one I worried about the most. However, once classes got underway, I soon discovered that this was a much better class than expected. Because of the way Cliff, our instructor, has structured this course, learning the material and applying it to our various assignments (not just the actual "assignments" but also the quizzes, discussions, etc...) was a lot easier and more practical. |
|
I thought I would hate this class, and was really dreading it at first. I didn't see how I was going to handle all the credits I was taking and take chemistry, too. As it turned out, I really liked it. I think that Cliff makes it interesting by relating chemistry to our everyday lives which helps us retain the information better. |
|
I thought chemistry was really going to suck, but thankfully, I
really had fun! The discussions were all actually useful and
thought-provoking, and Professor Gottlieb is definitely not your average
chemistry teacher. I was hooked from the first discussion, and I
agree, being able to see that other people were struggling, too, really
helped. |
|
When I first signed up for this course, I honestly expected for it to be a brain-draining, extremely technical class that I would struggle with constantly. I was totally wrong. While I did struggle with some of material, I found that a majority of the content we covered was applicable to many aspects of my life. |
|
I wanted to send you a quick email saying how much I really enjoyed your
class. It was really exciting to see the practical application to such a
complex study. If I wished to learn more chemistry what would be the next
class to take? |
|
Overall I really enjoyed this class, and when I told people that I was taking a chemistry class they felt bad for me, but I would like to think that I learned a lot and really enjoy all the fellow students, the teacher and the class. I hope to let anyone else that is looking in to taking a chem class to tell them to try chem 10 online. |
|
I was dreadful of taking chem, and I got alot of negative responces when I told people I was taking it, but it really wasn't all that bad, in fact I kinda enjoyed it and I learned alot to boot. |
|
I took this class as a general ed requirement too. I am definitely not science minded and I was dreading this... but I am surprised to say that I learned a lot and I ENJOYED it. :) |
|
I took this class ONLY because I needed a science
for my transfer units. I had NO interest in chemistry. |
|
This has been my favorite class in a long time, if not ever. I find myself doing the same things too. Discussing chemistry with friends, looking at ingredients lists. Weird |
|
I have enjoyed taking this class and hope to take additional classes with Mr. Gottlieb in the future. This class will definitely be recommended to other student by me :) |
|
Thank-you Cliff, its been a great class |
